Description and Special Features

Disinfekt 500 ® combines the powerful antimicrobial action of glutaraldehyde with an effective synthetic detergent, and quaternary ammonium chloride. At its recommended use-dilution of 1/2 ounce per gallon of water (1:256), Disinfekt 500 ® has many important advantages, including:

Product Performance

Disinfekt 500 ® is suitable for use on a wide variety of surfaces. In actual field use, it reduces contamination on commonly used materials of construction, including stainless steel, aluminum, painted and unpainted concrete, plastic, rubber, wood, and paper. Furthermore, it is no more damaging to these materials than is water. Even after repeated applications, there was no detectible buildup or tacky residue remaining after the treated surfaces had dried.

Disinfekt 500 ® also reduces airborne microorganism counts when applied via existing humidification or individual fogging equipment.

There have been no adverse effects reported in the hatch rate, growout rate, or general health appearance of fowl that were hatched and processed in Disinfekt 500 ® treated areas.

Antimicrobial Activity

The effectiveness of Disinfekt 500 ® can be seen in the AOAC Germicidal and Detergent Sanitizer Test. At the recommended use dilution (1:256), Disinfekt 500 ® completely destroyed test microorganisms in less than one minute, even in the presence of extremely hard water.

Mode of Action

The synergetic action of the quaternary ammonium chlorides combined with the glutaraldehydes yields efficacy performance which neither of these active ingredients can yield separately.

The strength of the glutaraldehyde hydrophilic deactivation is its ability to bind itself to the proteins through their R-NH2 groups. It has a very strong virucidal activity obtained by the cross-linking of the proteins of the naked (hydrophilic) viruses' capsid. It also combines with the nucleic acids contained in viruses (DNA/RNA). Bactericidal and fungicidal activities are due to the combination of glutaraldehyde with the proteic parts of the metabolic enzymes, and with the amino-acids.

Being strictly hydrophilic, glutaraldehyde cannot cross the cell's lipidic membrane of the coating of lipophilic viruses. Glutaraldehyde can only act outside these microorganisms. DINATEC's unique combination formulation allows the glutaraldehyde to kill germs from the inside due to the "synergistic" effect of the highly tension-active quaternary ammonium chlorides.

The quaternary ammonium chlorides provide lipophilic deactivation and are cationic tension active agents. The area of microorganism most affected by these active ingredients is the cell membrane. The quaternary ammonium chlorides cause changes in permeability that allow the escape of cell constituents and cause cells disorientation. These changes in permeability allow the glutaraldehyde to penetrate inside the microorganism.
